Hey i got a question for all you fishing gurus out there?

me and my family is thinking about going camping by a lake and i was going to fish for bass and catfish. well bass are not so picky and i catch them all the time but im new to the cat-fishing world. what are some good baits and gear. ive heard of punch bait and dip bait do they work. i have trouble keeping dough bait on the hook any tips to keeping them on the hook would help. i was thinking about getting some worms and chicken liver but what do you recommend. i have heard they will sting/shock you with their whiskers is this true.
